BMW F30 Wiper Blade Replacement: Step-by-Step Guide

Replacing wiper blades on a BMW F30 is one of the easiest maintenance tasks you can do yourself — no tools, no workshop appointment, and it takes under five minutes once you have the correct blades in hand. The most common mistake is buying the wrong size, so start there.

BMW F30 Wiper Blade Sizes

The F30 uses two different blade lengths: the driver’s side is 24 inches (600mm) and the passenger side is 19 inches (475mm). Do not mix them up — the passenger arm is shorter and will leave a large unwiped zone in the driver’s field of view if you accidentally install the smaller blade on the driver’s side.

The OEM part number that covers both blades as a set is 61610040722. This fits F30, F31, F32, F34, F36, G20, and G21. The blades use a standard hook connector, so the swap is tool-free.

Step-by-Step Replacement

Step 1 — Lift the wiper arm. Pull the wiper arm away from the windshield until it locks in the upright position, perpendicular to the glass. The arm has a detent that holds it in place while you work.

Step 2 — Find the release tab. Look at the centre of the blade where it connects to the hook on the arm. You will see a small plastic tab or clip. On F30 OEM-style blades this is a pinch tab — press it inward toward the hook.

Step 3 — Slide the blade off. While pressing the release tab, slide the blade downward (toward the base of the arm). The hook will disengage and the blade comes free. Set the old blade aside.

Step 4 — Attach the new blade. Orient the new blade so the hook slot aligns with the arm hook. Slide the blade up onto the hook until you hear and feel a firm click. Give it a light tug downward to confirm it is locked.

Step 5 — Lower the arm gently. Do not let the arm snap back onto the windshield on its own. Hold it and lower it slowly onto the glass. If the arm snaps down without a blade attached, the metal tip will hit the windshield and can crack it — this is the most common DIY mistake.

Step 6 — Test. Run the wipers through one full cycle to confirm both blades seat flat against the glass and move without chattering or lifting at highway speed.

Repeat for the Passenger Side

The passenger side process is identical. The arm is shorter and the blade is the 19-inch unit. Both arms have the same locking mechanism and the same hook connector.

Where to Buy

We stock the BMW F30 OEM wiper blade set (61610040722) as a driver-and-passenger pair — both blades, correct sizes, ready to install. No separate orders, no guessing which size goes where.

If your wipers are streaking, skipping, or leaving a haze even after a clean windshield, the blades are past their service life. In Canadian winters, blades typically need replacing every 12–18 months due to UV degradation and freeze-thaw cycling of the rubber edge.
